During the lifetime of a drill string, the individual drill string elements are constantly moving between offshore operation, storage locations, transport facilities and inspection/maintenance providers. Handling and control of these movements throughout the supply chain is in most cases still based on error-prone manual processes relying on paper based registration procedures and data transfer. Especially in situations where the physical assets are not following exactly the initialy planned process flow (exception handling), manual systems tend to fail and lead to inconsistency between physical and logical Inventory.
By using RFID based tracking across the supply chain, it is possible to reduce the potential for human errors in registration and interpretation to a minimum, while accurate location data for each individual drill pipe can be captured and made available in real time. Knowing exactly which drill pipe is where and when in the supply chain, and when it is expected to arrive at different locations allows for a potential reduction of safty stocks and increase of rig operations.
The DOTS Drill Pipe Logistics module combines information about each individual drill pipe with supply chain information and let you know the exact status of each individual drill pipe in the chain. The configurable WEB interface can be set-up to represent the different locations of a typical supply chain showing the inventory in each location for different aggregation levels (Individual - Drill string - Drill pipe dimension).
The Drill Pipe Logistics module is seamless integrated into the DOTS application and close the gap between offshore operation, transport and onshore logistics. It increases the efficiency and visibility of the supply chain and enables complete control of drill pipe life from cradle to grave. This will not only reduce cost in the short term but it also enables the analysis of process efficieny and performance towards a more lean operation.
