Q: Can the vulnerable electronics in RFID tags survive exposure to real downhole conditions?
A: Independent Oil Tools AS have tagged more than 5000 of their rental drill pipes since year 2000. So far, none of the tags have failed even
after several months of continuous downhole exposure.
Q: How does the installation of a DOTS™ system affect my drilling operation?
A: Only the installation of the well centre antenna for the stationary RFID reader may affect the drilling operation directly. However, the
antenna is installed in less than 30 minutes and may be done without any drilling downtime if properly coordinated with drilling operations.
Q: What kind of well conditions are the RFID tags guaranteed for?
A: They are thoroughly tested and selected to withstand temperatures up to 177°C / 350°F and pressures up to 1050 Bar / 15 000 PSI.
Q: How does the RFID tags withstand high H2S containing reservoirs?
A: The materials used are carefully selected and will not be affected by H2S.
Q: Is it possible to read the RFID tags during full speed tripping?
A: Field tests have demonstrated robust readings with tripping speeds up to 2 m/s.
Q: OLF ( Norwegian Oil Industry Association) are establishing RFID guidelines – is DOTS™ in compliance with these?
A: Trac ID has actively supported OLF in their process of establishing RFID guidelines. All our products shall comply with these guidelines
including DOTS™.
